It seems that the stars and universe seem to align after we made our bookings for our upcoming Japan Camper Van Road trip!

Come October 13, Japan Express Pass will allow foreign tourists unlimited travel in Japan on major expressways networks across the country. The transport ministry hopes it will lure more tourists and visitors to regional areas of Japan.

The Japan Express Pass is valid for seven consecutive days for ¥20,000 (about SGD$240), and a 14-day pass for ¥34,000, available at various rental car shops across the country.

The pass will allow travel on 10,000 kilometres of expressway networks, covering most parts of the country. Ann and I are very excited about this news as this will allow us unlimited travel on expressways without incurring high toll fees.

However, do note that expressways in Hokkaido, as well as those in metropolitan areas around Tokyo and Osaka, are excluded in the plan.

The Japan Express Pass works with standard sized cars equipped with the electronic toll collection (ETC) device. So do make sure your rental car has one when you are planning to drive in Japan.

As we can’t seem to find more information on the Japan Express Pass, we will update again when we have more info.

Till next time.
