03 – Our Overland Adventure from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur

Today we did what so many Singaporeans do when the itch to get away strikes.

We pointed the car north and headed for Kuala Lumpur from Desaru.

It’s the classic escape.

KL is big enough that there’s always something new to find, and familiar enough that it feels a bit like a second home.

Whether it’s for the food, the shopping, or just a change of scenery, the city keeps pulling us back.

As always, we checked in at our favourite place in the city, The RuMa Hotel and Residences.

There’s something about arriving here that makes the whole trip feel real. The long drive melts away, the bags get dropped, and you can finally exhale.

We kept the first day simple. A little swim to shake off the road fatigue, then a proper Nasi Lemak dinner.

Nothing fancy, just fragrant coconut rice, sambal with the right kick, crispy anchovies and a perfectly fried egg. Sometimes the simplest comfort food is the best welcome to a city.

After that, we rested.

This trip isn’t just a getaway.

There are a lot of decisions to be made over the next few days, and we’re not sure yet how they’ll play out. We’ll take it one day at a time and see where it leads.

For now, the pool is calm, the stomach is full, and the bed is calling.

We’ll see how it goes.

Stay tuned.
