Adrenaline in Australia – Tips for Thrill Seekers

Australia might be called Oz for a reason. You feel you’ve been transported to another dimension or realm, far away from what you once knew. Regardless of where you go in Australia, the philosophy of “no worries” is as prominent as the adrenaline-inducing excursions into the outback, trips to the beaches, and spending days either idle and relaxed or undergoing thrill after thrill.

Australia is the whole package for people who love having moments of rest paired with equal excitement.

Bungee Jumping

While New Zealand is the origin of bungee jumping, Australians have been indulging in the thrill of leaping off of cliff sides and bridges too. The most popular places for bungee jumping would be Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Cairns, but you can find day trips to bungee jumping spots almost anywhere in Australia.

Though I’ve never done bungee jumping (it’s on the bucket list), I heard from scores of people who said the free fall into Oz’s natural landscape is worth facing your fear of heights.

Hang Gliding & Paragliding

For those who want to experience the rush of an ocean breeze and mind-blowing expanses of land and sea rushing towards you from the horizon line, hang gliding or paragliding will satiate that desire. Australia has the views and the open skies that grant a memorable experience.

For the best paragliding and hang gliding locations, Sydney’s Royal National Park, Wollongong, Tasmania, and Queensland are the go-to places, since there’s plenty of hills and cliffs to catch the wind.

Skydiving

Perth, Australia is a calm city that boasts a huge number of skydiving trips and highly rated schools. I can only imagine how the cerulean blue of the Indian ocean looks from on-high. I plan to try skydiving in Western Australia myself sometime soon.

If WA isn’t in your itinerary, Mission Beach is popular, because you can see Queensland’s beaches. Other places to go skydiving include Melbourne’s Skydive Centre, Adrenalin, and Adventures Australia, NSW Byron Bay, Sydney’s Wollongong Beach, and Darwin’s Lee Point Beach.

Cave Diving

While hiking through the outback or mountains is great, when is the last time you went cave diving? Never? Adventure caving is unique to Australia because you can visit a subterranean world, lantern in hand.

Some caves are more challenging than others, but you can expect them to be well-travelled. The best spots are Carey’s Cave, Capricorn Caves, Mammoth Cave, Jenolan Caves, and Jewel Cave.

Scuba Diving & Free Diving

One of the most amazing diving experiences I ever went on was in Western Australia, near Rottnest Island (where the quokkas are). Although I free dive, you can scuba dive down to shipwrecks beneath the ocean waves. Also, you can snorkel around reefs, dive with whale sharks, surf with dolphins, or take your chances getting lowered into the sea in a shark cage. The choice is yours but I will definitely take the plunge.

Australia is a place of worldly and self-discovery. Not only can you face your fears with adventurous pursuits, but you can also sit back alongside a river or on a beach and chill out after each unique experience.

The only question is how many wild and crazy excursions can you pack into a single trip!?
