Brawn & Brains – Amazing Soy Lattes with Great Choice of Pastries at Guillemard Road

Brawn and Brains name really reflects where it is situated as the ‘Brains’ stands for the Kumon learning centre close by, and the wellness centres, gyms as well as yoga schools that may signify the ‘Brawn’ part. Totally my thought, though.

The cafe started small, and with great taste blending in one place, its clientele base has increased.

The café is situated at the old Singapore Badminton Hall. You can clearly see the building at Guillemard Road. Brains and Brawns was once occupying a tiny space but has expanded, while still maintaining the same location. The scenery is very clean and spacious. The café has three long communal tables, as well as four smaller tables that can sit two only.

The full-length windows of the café ensure that natural light streams into the café, which gives it the natural feel. The menu is available at the entrance on a chalk wall. The prices of their meals have increased a bit since their expansion, with their offerings similar, the usual sandwiches, wraps and pastries.

Korvapuusti aka Finnish Cinnamon Bun

Ann and I were there early on a Sunday morning something which seems rare as we were either too busy or sleeping in on the weekends. 🙂 We were catching The Lion King Musical that day and decided to catch a quick brunch before the show.

Brawn & Brains sells croissants and other pastries that have gotten a large following. It is common to hear people rave about the Earl Grey Croissant. However, the Earl Grey Croissant was unavailable the day Ann and I came.

We have a new hobby of dipping Viennoiseries or pastries with coffee and we decided to order their freshly baked Korvapuusti aka Finnish Cinnamon Bun to dip with our Soy Lattes.

The Cinnamon Bun dipped with coffee was a masterpiece. The Museum of Foods should get ready to get it inducted as one of man’s finest works. 😛

I have heard a lot about the Cinnamon Bun, and I thought it was merely hype created by its owners until we dipped in our lattes and took a bite on it. Amazing!

Both of us ordered the Soy Cafe Latte that was warm and had this rich aroma, taste and I was amazed at how smooth the latte glided in my oesophagus. Usually, soy milk lattes have a clumpy texture and weird aftertaste but Brawn & Brains latte was silky smooth with fine frothy milk texture. We were impressed.

However, we had a problem with the size of the coffee, which was only 4 oz. It was a little too small for us for something so good!

After we were done with the Cinnamon Bun, we decided to fill our tummies by having the Avocado and Salmon Toast. The taste is indescribable. All I can say is that I am in love.

The owners of Brawn & Brains seriously know what they are doing. The Avocado and salmon toast was not lacking in any aspect. Molten cheese toast with 2 runny eggs, thinly sliced avocado, tomato and greens salad with cheese topping and generous servings of smoked salmon.

What more can you ask for? It really went way past our expectations.

Their customer service was great. A staffer made me laugh. The quality of their food was nice. We could not get enough of the Soy Lattes and their prices seemed quite reasonable.

Will We Go Back There Again?
Of course! We are looking forward to more dipped pastries in their Soy Lattes!
