My Makan Place: Premium Beef Short Ribs Noodle That You Can’t Get Enough Of

My Makan Place, Tanjong Katong, Singapore, My Makan Place Review

Ann and I have been hanging out in Katong lately for cycling, brunch as well as trying out new restaurants. A friend of ours recommended us an eatery at Tanjong Katong Road named My Makan Place which serves Indonesian styled cuisine with a slight twist.

The highlight of the eatery is probably the Premium Short Ribs Noodle Soup. It is so good that Ann made me bring her to My Makan Place 3 times in a span of a week!

We were informed by the owner, Sharon & son Kiat Han that the short ribs are slow-cooked for more than 10 hours to tender perfection that it just falls off the bone. The noodle soup is similar to the Vietnamese Pho or the Indonesian styled oxtail soup but the owner has decided to use premium short ribs instead.

You can choose from a variety of noodles from yellow noodles to Udon. We, however, recommend that you go for Kway Teow (flat rice noodles) which is a combination which you can never go wrong.

As Ann made me come here 3 times in a span of a week, I decided to try out the other food on the menu. One dish that caught my eye was the Premium Mee Rebus where the gravy is made from sweet potato!

During my younger days, Mee Rebus gravy is made from sweet potato but over the years, probably due to costs and the time taken to make it from sweet potato, the originality of the recipe of Mee Rebus has disappeared from the local hawkers.

I am quite impressed that My Makan Place has kept the traditional recipe alive at the same time infusing it with premium toppings such as Ngoh Hiang, battered fish fillet, wanton and even crispy fish skin!

Definite Must Try!

The 3rd time that we came here, I decided to try out the Ayam Penyet  (Smashed Chicken Rice) served with a fried sunny side up, achar, mouth-watering sambal and of course not forgetting the crispy fried chicken marinated with various spices.

The chicken is marinated overnight, boiled, lightly battered and deep fried to crispy perfection. However, the chicken served is not smashed, unlike its name.

The fiery sambal completes this whole dish. It makes us drool just by thinking about it.

All the 3 days we were here, we were very impressed by the food that My Makan Place served and we even made friends with the 2nd generation owner Kiat Han. There are still the Mee Siam and Mee Soto that we have not tried and we are looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu.

My Makan Place has also received their Halal Certification early this year too. So we truly recommend you to bring all your friends here to try out the delicious food.

Till next time.
