Elfuego – Modern European Cuisine @ The Jewel Changi Airport
7th June was our anniversary and we decided to head to The Jewel at Changi Airport for an early dinner. One of our friends recommended that we checked out this newly opened Modern European cuisine restaurant named Elfuego and that was where we headed to.
‘Elfuego™ , the newest Halal concept by local western food chain COLLIN’S®, aims to redefine the dining experience for both local and international guests. Located at the iconic Jewel, Changi Airport, Elfuego™ features modern European halal cuisine in an open kitchen concept that gives our guests a glimpse of the action as their orders are carefully prepared by our local award-winning team of chefs.
Irish Oyster No.3
We made reservations and we highly recommend you do so if you are planning to come here as it can get very crowded fast. After settling down to our seats, we started our meal with the Irish Oyster No.3.
3 freshly shucked Irish Oysters, served with diced avocado and topped with Cucumber Granita was something new to our palate. Usually, Ann and I would have oysters by itself but the ones at Elfuego had a different touch and taste. The oysters were briny, while the avocado and cucumber granita which was like ice slushies gave the oysters a dimension we have never tasted before.
Personally, we both did not like it as we are not used to it. But we were open to tasting something new and found that the oysters with the granita were a very interesting start to our meal.
Crispy Soft Shell Shrimp
Next, we ordered the Crispy Soft Shell Shrimp Karaage that was accompanied by a garden salad mixed with cold water shrimp and mustard vinaigrette.
The Shrimp Karaage was something we were familiar with and we really enjoyed this dish. The crunchiness of the soft shell shrimp goes well with the garden salad that was mixed with chewy water shrimp.
You can never go wrong with this dish and we highly recommend this salad if you are not adventurous enough to try the oysters. 😛
Seared Australian Baby Lamb Rack
For our main course, Ann opted for the Seared Australian Baby Lamb Rack. According to the menu, the lamb is Dukkah marinated which is an Egyptian spice blend served with minted pea and orange endive.
Ann had the lamb medium rare, however, she felt that the spices were a little too overpowering to her liking. For me, the minted pea and endive was a nice mix to the lamb which toned down the spices a little.
Charcoal Grilled Argentine Angus Ribeye
The highlight of our anniversary dinner was probably the Charcoal Grilled Argentine Angus Ribeye. I had it done medium rare and it was probably one of the best steaks we both had in a long time.
The Argentine Angus ribeye was very tender something similar to a Wagyu cut but at a moderate price. The smokey charcoal grill gave it a nice flavour and I was in steak heaven that the forest mushroom ragout,
watercress horseradish salad and mustard vinaigrette that accompanied the steak were like supporting roles in a movie that had a Star actor. 😛
Cacao
While we were enjoying our dinner, the manager came up to us and he recognizes me from my time in National Service. It was quite some time ago and we had a little chat.
Being a great host, he served us their famous dessert Cacao which is a variation of chocolate flavours and textures as a gift for our anniversary.
The dessert is akin to a chocolate mousse cake served with crunchy bits of honeycomb and chocolate crumbs with flower petals. A very rich and satisfying end to our lovely meal.
Overall, Ann and I had a lovely time at Elfuego for our anniversary dinner. The top highlight of the meal is, of course, the company of each other! 🙂
And we would definitely come here again and try the other interesting dishes out.
Till next time.
