Yi Zun – Hand Pulled Beef Noodles That Is Good to The Last Slurp

My love for noodles is second to none. When I found out that there was one Halal hand pulled beef noodle shop at Sam Leong road, I immediately dragged Shahrom along to try it out.

As you enter the shophouse, you can see at the back of the shop that there is a window where you can peek into the kitchen as the chef swings around the piles of dough into silky strings of noodles.

The cooking of the noodles is done quite quickly, as the chef makes sure the dough is divided up into two parts, then later into four, and into other portions until the noodles get into the needed shape.

The flair and the movement made me fall in love. 😛

Yi Zun is a Halal-certified restaurant known to serve Xinjiang Chinese delicacies that are quite affordable. It is a Muslim owned restaurant too.

The most popular item on the menu that brings people from far and wide is the Yi Zun Beef Noodle. The long silky hand pulled noodles combined with beef slices, spring onions and bathed with clear, light and savoury broth can ignite all your senses. Add some chilli oil that is served as a condiment and you will be transported to noodle heaven.

After being a regular visitor at the Sam Leong branch, Yi Zun decided to open a branch in Joo Chiat. The restaurant is bigger, more comfortable with North Western Chinese decor and surprisingly I think the food tastes slightly better here.

They added new items to the menu and when Shahrom saw that the are selling Xinjiang styled lamb skewers, he just had to order it. The last time we had one of those lamb skewers was in Beijing enroute for our Honeymoon trip to Mongolia.

It brought back alot of memories for us.

The Xinjiang styled lamb skewers are similar to Middle Eastern styled kebabs but vary in the way they are seasoned. The Xinjiang styled lamb skewers have more of the cumin taste as well as Sichuan peppercorns.

They are grilled to perfection with small chunks of fat to make it super juicy. And Shahrom was in ecstasy!

You can see from his face that he is really enjoying the lamb skewers. The lamb skewers are huge too and one skewer for me was enough to make me full together with a steaming bowl of hand pulled beef noodles.

Do note too that the Yi Zun lamb skewers would make you feel heaty too. Same like the one we had on our Beijing trip. So do eat in moderation.

I like the fact that Yi Zun, like a lot of restaurants, is Halal certified. This allows people of different races to hangout and dine at the same restaurant. We have invited loads of friends here to try both the hand pulled beef noodles as well as the Xinjiang styled beef skewers.

All of them loved it.

I love to come here to give my tummy a pampering and everytime we are here Shahrom couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear after the lamb skewers.

I know we won’t stop going there.
